[3] Amanda Sobhy (USA) bt [7] Olivia Blatchford Clyne (USA)  11-1, 6-11, 11-1 (25m)

A very sumptuous start for Amanda today, immaculate lenght/power and Liv unable to react really, 6 for 11/1.

Advised by Hubby Alan, Liv truly found her game, better lines, hitting her targets beautifully, and we had a match on our hand, from 4/4, 8/4, 11/6 in 11m, with Amanda looking like not wanting to move and strangely lazy like!

The third well, 10/0, a long rally and finally the ball in the tin: no, apparently, Amanda didn’t want to give it away… Nice match still, and great effort/display for Liv I thought.

Amanda

I think that having such an amazing crowd helps, it was just the difficulty of having to play another US team-mate and good friend. I had to just put that out of sight and try to focus on that she was just another opponent. I think we just wanted to come out and put on a good show for this amazing crowd, which I hope we did.

In the second, I lost a bit my length, and opened the court too much, allowing her to volley from the T, in particular opening the backhand volley, which is bread and butter for her.

I had a bit of a squash “blackout”, when you just cannot remember what happened! I couldn’t move, I was suddenly very tired, and I was like what is happening to me!

In the third, I settled in a bit, the second was a bit frantic to be honest, and I just regrouped. I didn’t want to lose my focus, so when I was at 10/0, I didn’t want to give her a point because when I got injured in Colombia, I was up 10/3 and I had a sitter, didn’t take it. And that’s when I got injured.

So today, I really didn’t want to give her that point, I just made an error. She said thank you but in fact, I was so afraid of losing my focus…!!

That is truly impressive and Impressive is an understatement. This is definitely one of the best venues we are going to play at on tour, and I am just happy to be a part of it. I think that gives all of us a little added incentive because I don’t think any of us want to stop playing in front of this crowd!
