Gregoire Marche (FRA) bt Nathan Lake (ENG) 11-4, 11-4 (24m)
Olivia Blatchford Clyne (USA) 2-0 Nadine Shahin (EGY) 11-6, 11-7 (21m)
I was a bit stressed at the beginning because you never know what to expect in the first match of the season. I just tried to be patient and take the opportunities when I had them, and I played solid for the whole two games.
I was disappointed to see I would not be playing on the glass for my first match in Nantes, so I knew that I had to play on there!
Nadine just came back from China with an humongous win and some mighty good results. Yesterday Lucy Turnell played extremely well, and Nadine beat her too, but I saw some areas where I could hit into.
Still I decided to let my legs run, and you know what? At the end of the match, my heart was bursting, and I was loving the feeling. I went on there to do battle, and I did. It was a good match, not perfect, but I stopped expecting perfect for a few years now.
I just want to go out and play with my opponent. It’s not about me, about Olivia playing well. It’s about accepting that two players are ready to fight to the death, and adapt to what she is giving out there. I’m over the mindset “oh, I’m playing well”. It’s about loving the battle and adapting to your opponent…
