[3] Joel Makin (Wal) 3-2 [6] Gregoire Marche (Fra) 8-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 (95m)

Annnnd another heartbreak for the French, as the Acrobat was up 2/0 and looking pretty good when at 6/6 in the second, he scored the next three points.

But the huge, and we mean huge work that the Golden Tiger imposed and forced on his opponent in the first two games just paid dividends in the end, with the same pattern on each game, close up to mid game, and Joel just finding the winners and Gregoire having no energy…

A biiiig effort from the French to be fair at the end, as he was running on fumes, from 5/9 down, a no let that Joel appeals – trying to cancel the appeal as he realised it could be a life line for his opponent, but too late….

And it gave the French a bit of a breathing time, came back 2 points, but Joel was just too confident and accurate at the front with a ball that had soften nicely, and it’s 11/7 in his first attempt…

Superb disciplined and clinical display from the Welsh from the third on…

Joel (more to come)

I am relieved to get through that one to be honest. I was passive and I got it wrong early on. I sat back too much, even though I knew what I wanted to do. I didn’t quite get it right and credit to him, he was moving unbelievably well.

He was taking the ball in and taking his chances. Once it got to 2-0, I knew I needed to take him in and just work him. I had to try and stretch him out and he started to slow down. It was tough after that and it worked in the end.

A few Birmingham guys and few Welsh guys, it is great that they came across. Everyone seems to enjoy Nantes. The crowd were rally behind him. The first few points were long and drawn out and he won a couple of them and they were right behind him, but you can’t let that make any difference.

The atmosphere has been brilliant all week so I have enjoyed coming down and watching. Seeing your opponent for the next stage gives you a bit of a feel of how they are playing. We have all seen each other loads before but you get a feel for what they are doing this week.

I am trying to get to the top 10 as soon as possible, and a victory tomorrow here would be a big step.

The other semi final is going to be a tough one, Paul had a big match yesterday, another one coming up tonight, and as he is higher seeded, he’ll be expected to win, pressure is on, should be a cracking match…
